Tighza Valley – Walking and experiencing local life

Starting from Marrakech this trip will take you to the beautiful Tighza Valley. During our journey to the valley, we will visit the abandoned Telout Kashah. We will stay in a local guesthouse (gite) and accompanied by a local guide we will hike through the stunning valley and discover local Amazigh life. We will have 1 night of camping along the shore of lake Lamda.

This is really back to basics! Enjoy the beautiful nature, simplicity, and tranquility of rural Morocco, learn about the local Amazigh people, and enjoy their warm hospitality.

Tighza Valley and Telouet Kasbah 8 Days Trek in Morocco  – Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech Arrival

Welcome to Morocco! You will probably arrive at Marrakech Menara airport. We will pick you up and bring you to your hotel. For the rest of the day, you will have time to acclimatize and free time to discover the impressive ‘red city’ of Marrakech. You could visit Djemaa El Fnaa, drink some delicious fresh fruit juice, enjoy the snake charmers and wander around in the souks.

Day 2: Télouet and Tighza (1800 m)

Today we will take a 4.5-hour drive (with a lunch stop) to Télouet (by minivan) where we will visit the Kasbah of Télouet. Which was once one of the many palaces of the Glaoui family. This Kasbah is abandoned in the 1960s and this summer palace still resembles some of the grandeur of the famous Glaoui Family. The last ruler, also known as ‘the Lord of the Atlas’ was a very colorful person. Your guide will tell you all about him and the Glaoui family.

After visiting this Kasbah we will walk for 5 km to our gite (simple hotel) in Tighza. The luggage will be taken by car. This is the real start of your Tighza Valley and Telouet Kasbah 8 Days Trek in Morocco.

The walk will be the first of many through the country of the Amazigh (Berber) people. The roads are mainly unpaved so make sure you have the proper outfit for this walk. After this walk, you will have to relax time. dinner will be served in the gite and you will enjoy the calmness and quietness of the mountains and enjoy a good night’s sleep.

Day 3: Tizi N’oukhsane (2300 m)

Today we will walk have breakfast and walk to the Tizi Nóukhsane. We will be accompanied by the cook and his mule which carry the provisions to prepare us a delicious picnic lunch. We will return to gite where we will have dinner and spend the night.

You will walk accompanied by a local -English-speaking- guide and he will be able to tell you everything about the mountains, the local life in the mountains. About the culture and history of the Amazigh (Berber) people. and everything else you want to know about life, history, and culture in Morocco. You are able to enjoy the beautiful, grand High Atlas Mountains, the peacefulness, and the beautiful nature. During some periods in the year, you will be able to see the snowy mountain summits and enjoy the nice mountain climate.

Trekking in Tighza Village with Travel Magical Morocco

Day 4: Tizi Nóuglagal (2200 m)

This morning we will walk to the Tizi Nouglagal and we will return before lunch. The traditional lunch will be served at the gite.
In the afternoon we will visit the village Tighza and visit an Amazigh (Berber) family to drink tea. This is a good opportunity to meet people and experience the local life and customs of the people in the mountains. Some people don’t speak English, but French, Moroccan Arabic (Darija), and Tamazight (the Amazigh language). However, with the help of your guide, you can have some great conversations. After tea, you will have some free time and dinner and the stay will be at the gite.

Day 5: Tamda Lake (2800 m)

Today we will walk to Lake Tamda. Mules, accompanied by muleteers, will carry our luggage for one night and a cook join us to prepare a picnic lunch, dinner, and breakfast. We will camp along the shore of Tamda Lake, the tents are provided. Tamda Lake is a very idyllic place and it is an opportunity to experience the beautiful nature of the impressive mountains.

Day 6: Tighza

Today we will get up and have breakfast at the shore of the lake. The tents will be torn down and we will return to our gite in Tighza, where we will have free time to refreshen ourselves, have dinner, and spend the night.

Day 7: Tighza to Marrakech

Time to leave the peacefulness of the High Atlas Mountains and return to the big city for the end of your Tighza Valley and Telouet Kasbah 8 Days Trek in Morocco. We leave Tighza Valley and return to Marrakech (a 4-hour drive) where we will stay at a hotel. In Marrakech, we will have free time. The contrast between the quiet mountains and the bustling ‘red city’ of Marrakech is huge. Probably you will have some time left to wander through the small souks, have dinner at Djemaa el Fnaa and buy souvenirs. Don’t forget to bargain if you want to buy something!

Day 8: Marrakech Airport Transfer

The last day of your Tighza Valley and Telouet Kasbah 8 Days Trek in Morocco trip. We hope you enjoyed it and enjoyed the beauty and the life in the mountains. Today you will have free time in Marrakech and we will transport you to the airport.
